SATURN RETURNS

Oh, Berlin! Two expat party animals – a flamboyant punk boy and a privileged North American woman – conquer the nights and live a careless life of drugs, drinks, escalator diving and some sex. Sound familiar? Just when Lucy and Derek thought it would never end, an enigmatic Israeli woman enters Lucy’s life and changes everything. Shot on a budget of 2000 euros, Lior Shamriz‘ nasty little punk-opera-turn-existentialist-melodrama is full of life and improvised scenes that ooze a zeitgeisty spirit which is impossible to script. In honour of the late Joshua Bogle (who plays Derek) we are screening two films by Lior Shamriz, which depict a contemporary Kreuzberg expat scene unlike any other film – wild, uncompromising, raw and funny.

THE VACCUUM CLEANER

Two friends meet. The pretence is that one wants to borrow a vacuum cleaner from the other. One makes coffee although the other doesn’t want to stay. The situation is brief but awkward. Imri Kahn, co-author of SATURN RETURNS, plays one of the friends, enigmatic nightlife queen Joshua Bogle the other. A cute observation of a very common form of undesired communication.
