NAN GOLDIN – I REMEMBER YOUR FACE

„You have a home in Berlin“, it reads from a sticker on the mirror in which we see photographer Nan Goldin’s very recognisable face. Goldin has in deed not only had a home here but has become a very important and intimate chronicler of her Berlin friends since the 1980s – gays, lovers, kings and queens of the night – among them festival patron Clemens Schick. In recent years, numerous exhibitions have featured Goldin’s Berlin work, among them the c/o, the Berlinische Galerie and Martin-Gropius-Bau. Now, director Sabine Lidl has made a wonderful documentary in which she accompanies Nan Goldin from Berlin to Paris meeting many of her friends along the way. We discover how Goldin met a young Clemens Schick and fell in love with when he was still waiting tables in Berlin. We see curators and artist friends of Nan Goldin talk to her and about her on camera and become part of a world of love and pain, tenderness and loss. The film celebrates its Germany premiere at the BERLIN ART FILM FESTIVAL and is a beautiful closing statement about love, art, friendship and solidarity. Along director Sabine Lidl and producer Irene Höfer, we are expecting a number of Goldin’s friends who appear as protagonists in the film.
